Accessibility Doesn’t Stop at Home
A Goal Worth Chasing
At Tendercare, we spend a lot of time focused on support in the home. That is where our patients receive care, where families build routines, and where the realities of complex care are often most visible.
But accessibility doesn’t stop at home.
This year, our Marketing Director, Brittney Mason, set a goal to partner with an Indiana sports venue and help make a community space more accommodating for the kinds of patients and families we serve every day. I wanted to take something Tendercare believes in and help carry it into the community in a real, tangible way.
Why Victory Field
Victory Field felt like the right place to start.
It’s one of Indianapolis’ most loved gathering spaces. Families go there to make memories, enjoy time together, and be part of the community. But for some families, something as routine as using the restroom can become a barrier. For individuals with significant medical or mobility needs, standard public restroom setups are often not enough. That can affect whether a family feels comfortable taking part in an outing at all.
When we brought the idea to the Indianapolis Indians, they were quick to agree. This had already been on their radar, which made the partnership feel like a natural fit. There was already an understanding that accessibility was worth investing in, and together, we were able to help move the idea into action.
As a result, universal changing tables have been installed in the men’s and women’s restrooms in Section 115 at Victory Field. A special thank you to Jackie and team at Specialized Home Care Solutions for their part in sourcing and installing the table for us.
Why It Matters
This is about more than one update inside one part of the ballpark.
It is about dignity, comfort, and making community spaces more usable for families who need more than the standard setup. It is about helping remove a barrier that can make everyday experiences feel out of reach.
For Tendercare, this partnership reflects something we care deeply about. The families we serve deserve support not only at home, but in the community too. They deserve to feel seen, considered, and included in the places where life happens.
We hope this collaboration sparks more widespread conversation about what accessibility looks like in community spaces so our friends with limited mobility can show up and have more than just a place to sit. Seeing this spark a movement in our state for greater inclusion would be the ideal outcome of this partnership so our patients can go out and enjoy many of the great spaces that make Indiana wonderful.
A Meaningful Moment for Tendercare
On May 27, Tendercare Home Health Day at Victory Field, we will celebrate this partnership in a special way. Our patient Jason (seen in the photo on a visit from the Indians mascot, Rowdie) will throw out the first pitch, and our team, families, and supporters will have the chance to come together and see the universal changing tables for themselves.
We are proud to partner with the Indianapolis Indians to help make Victory Field more accessible, and proud to support a change that can make game day easier for more families.
Because accessibility does not stop at home. And neither should our commitment to it.
