What Part B and Part E Mean for You

The Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) provides benefits to qualified workers and their families who became ill because of exposures at covered Department of Energy (DOE) sites or related facilities.

Part B – Radiation, Beryllium, and Silica Exposure

Part B covers workers (or eligible survivors) who developed certain illnesses caused by exposure to ionizing radiation, beryllium, or silica dust while working at a covered site.
Those who qualify can receive a tax-free lump-sum payment of up to $150,000, along with medical benefits for the accepted condition.

Part E – Toxic Substance and Chemical Exposure

Part E extends coverage to a wider range of toxic substances such as chemicals, solvents, acids, and metals—not just radiation. It applies to DOE contractors and subcontractors who became ill due to workplace exposures.
Approved claims under Part E can include:

  • Medical benefits for the covered illness
  • Compensation for impairment or wage loss related to the condition
  • Survivor benefits if the worker has passed away

Total monetary compensation under Part E can be up to $250,000, depending on impairment and wage-loss factors.
